According to the official report of the Sputnik news agency, Slovakian Prime Minister Edward Heger wrote on social media: Slovakia has temporarily suspended the import of grain and other Ukrainian products into the country. A working group meeting will be held on this issue today.
On Sunday, the former prime minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, called on the country’s authorities to immediately stop grain imports from Ukraine and said: “Slovak farmers have been waiting for such an action from their government for a long time.”
Slovakia on Friday banned the processing and sale of Ukrainian grain due to the discovery of a dangerous pesticide banned in the European Union in a shipment of 1,500 tons.
Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, referring to the lack of any “meaningful” measures throughout the European Union to protect the markets from “instability” caused by the uncontrolled entry of cheap products, temporarily “banned” the import of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine. did Poland had done something similar to this.
In explaining these “extraordinary measures”, the Minister of Agriculture of Hungary said: Ukrainian agriculture with production methods that are no longer allowed in the European Union, and as a result, with very low production costs and, among other things, with free and tax-free trade opportunities, make competition for EU farmers become impossible.
At the same time, Poland, by announcing similar restrictions, emphasized the need to protect local farmers, which was met with Kiev’s reaction. Kyiv condemned Warsaw’s decision to impose a ban on Ukrainian grain and other agricultural products, accusing the country of violating an agreement the two countries signed this month.
