Medical professionals, including physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, especially those involved in emergency medicine, who are looking for the latest information to overcome professional burnout, can register to attend the CME & BEACH event scheduled for June 26-29, 2022, in Sandestin, Florida. Hospitalists, those who work in ICU, urgent care, primary care, and family medicine are encouraged to register, attend and benefit from these sessions.

Warren Wellness MD provides fun, interactive, family-friendly, nature-based CME retreats for medical professionals wanting to escape the daily grind. There are multiple events held throughout the year to fit your schedule.

This event is taught by Dr. Thomas Warren, a triple-boarded general and vascular surgeon and psychiatrist, MBSR trained, and Rebekah Mills, PA-C who is certified in lifestyle medicine and a practicing hospitalist. These professionals provide a combined 40+ years of patient care. They also understand burnout first hand and the vicarious trauma magnified from COVID.

Dr. Thomas Warren heralds from Central Texas and invites fellow Texas medical professionals, as well as doctors, PAs and NPs in all specialties from any other state, to come to sunny Florida for this retreat. This includes those who work in ICU, hospital medicine, and Emergency Rooms (ERs). Regardless of the state in which you work and practice, you can qualify for CME credits.

The last two years have been extremely trying for medical professionals. There has been the challenge to balance work and family. There have been long hours and stress which has led to professional burnout. This event is designed to assist you in your private journey of discovery and maturation by providing interactive programs focusing on the core of a well-balanced individual. It also provides the opportunity to earn CME credits, including an ethics credit. There is opportunity for family fun and recreation as well.

When asked about the reasons behind creating this event, Rebekah Mills, the co-host of the event, said:

“When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States, as a hospital-based physician assistant, I spent the majority of my shifts working on the COVID unit. Instantly, I was bombarded with the pressure and secondary trauma of carrying the weight of patients, families, fellow healthcare workers and our community, navigating their emotions of fear, isolation, and sudden loss of loved ones…in addition to my own challenges of bringing this home to those I cared about. This weight lay on my shoulders as I participated in endless, terrifying conversations with those requiring ventilator treatment and end of life care. This experience, combined with discussions with Dr. Warren, a vascular surgeon turned psychiatrist, who spent decades primarily performing surgeries on patients with self-inflicted disease, led to a realization that healthcare professionals need resources that teach us how to cope with this vicarious trauma we face daily. We created Warren Wellness MD early on in the pandemic to teach these skills via small, interactive wellness and burnout, nature focused, family-friendly retreats and adventures, in addition to online education and no pill psychiatry counseling services to all individuals.”

Warren Wellness MD is producing this year’s event, which will cover key issues such as:

-Define vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue and how they contribute to burnout

-Employ interactive methods of education that will assist in maintaining a wellness mindset

-Provide simple, daily methods of how to obtain wellness and work/home balance

-Illustrate how wellness can manifest not only in your life, but also have an effect those around you

-Contemplate the different methods to obtain wellness and commit to employing them in your daily life

-Implement a follow-up strategy to aid in continued assistance in helping mitigate burnout and improve work/home balance
